SCULPTRA

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biodegradable synthetic material that has been used safely in medical products for many years. Sculptra is an injectable cosmetic treatment that gradually restores lost facial volume by stimulating your body's own collagen production. Unlike traditional fillers that add volume immediately, Sculptra works over several weeks to months.

Sculptra was first used 30+ years ago to treat facial lipoatrophy—the loss of facial fat that commonly affected people living with HIV. At the time, some HIV medications caused significant fat loss in the face, resulting in hollow cheeks and temples that could affect both appearance and quality of life. Doctors noticed the PLLA particles stimulated the body to produce new collagen, leading to gradual, long-lasting improvement. This collagen-building effect distinguished it from traditional fillers. As a result, physicians began exploring its use for age-related facial volume loss and skin rejuvenation.
